General Guidelines
Keep ideas simple and straightforward. Remember the audience members have a general technical background. It is the author's responsibility to obtain all requisite permission to release the information presented in the poster. Posters presented at this conference must not be classified.
To be eligible to participate, a contestant must be a Student Member in good standing of SHPE
The poster board must be used for all presentation material (print outs, pictures, etc…)
Each Entry may have only one author printed on the poster
A Student Chapter may have multiple participants
Poster board size is 36" high, a center panel 24" wide, and two side panels which are 12" wide
(Poster Boards can be purchased at Staples Office Supply for about $6 )
Judging will take place Saturday morning
Winners will be announced at the Awards Show & Gala Banquet.
A competitor must realize that the presentation is an individual effort. However, ethical policies require credit to be given on the poster for any outside assistance related to the reported project. As a general guideline, the poster is to be prepared so that it can be easily understood in the absence of the author. Except for fasteners, all poster materials must be flush with the board, not protruding more than 1/8 inch (3.2 mm). There may be no mechanical or electrical devices on the board. All material must be accessible without having to lift or turn pages. There can be no materials placed in front of, above, below, or to the side of the poster. The poster must be able to stand free on a supporting table, or easel.
Include on poster at the left hand corner an author section with 4x6 dimensions. The author section should include the submitter's name, school, and major.
Arranging Materials
Prepare a title for the top of your poster, including author and the name of your Chapter. Letters should be at least one inch high. Arrange materials in columns rather than rows. Logically consistent sections may be grouped on background of the same color. An introduction should be placed on the upper left and conclusion(s) on the lower right, both in large letters. Also include on poster, at the lower left hand corner, an author section with 4"x6" dimensions. The author section should include the submitter’s name, school, and major.
Illustrations
Keep in mind that the poster will be viewed from a distance. Each illustration should have a heading of one or two lines in large type stating the "take-home" message. Detailed information should be provided in a legend in smaller type below. This information replaces the commentary that would ordinarily constitute the body of a manuscript, but in abbreviated form. It should describe the content of the illustration and the conclusions to be drawn from it.
Handout Material
Prepare a one-sheet handout on your poster/project so that conference participants who view it will have information for reference if they decide to undertake a similar activity in their section or society.
• Failure to abide by the above rules will disqualify the poster.
